About the Middle College Program

The Middle College program is a bridge to college in which students finish earning their high school requirements and start earning college credits at Cañada College, all while receiving support and guidance from caring teachers. While Middle College students take all of their classes Cañada College, they can continue to participate in school activities, such as sports, dances, and graduation ceremonies. All graduates receive a high school diploma from their home school in the Sequoia district.

More Information

Cañada Middle College is a collaboration between Cañada College and the Sequoia Union High School District. Through this unique alternative high school program, students have the opportunity to explore new challenges that are not available in a traditional high school. Students complete the requirements for high school graduation while enrolled in college courses and attend all classes on the college campus. Students in Cañada's Middle College program quickly discover the joy and benefits of self-directed learning in a stimulating and diverse college atmosphere.

Students in the program benefit from close interactions with their teachers in a mature learning environment with personalized support that helps them make the transition from high school to college. Students at Middle College pursue rigorous, collegiate coursework while fostering connections between their Middle College community, the larger Cañada community, and their greater local and global community. All Middle College graduates finish high school with a year to a year-and-a-half of college credit completed. This saves graduates time and money when they attend college after high school graduation, especially when considering the quickly increasing costs of a four-year education. All courses are held at Cañada College, and students in Cañada's Middle College program quickly discover the joy and benefits of self-directed learning in a stimulating and diverse college atmosphere.

According to FERPA (The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), college professors are not allowed to communicate with parents about a student’s performance in class. Under no circumstances should a parent contact a professor. It is important that families and participants understand that Middle College students need to be responsible for themselves and willing to advocate for themselves, with the help of their Middle College teachers.
