Bibiana Oseguera

Bibiana Oseguera was born in Bogotá, Colombia and moved to the United States when she was six years old. After graduating from high school, she studied to become a licensed Cosmetologist. When she had her two children, she stayed home to raise them, returning after some time to work as a preschool teacher’s aide. After a few years, she began taking classes at Cañada College in the summer of 2010 to better her education while also working full-time. She received a Certificate of Achievement in Early Childhood Education/Child Development on May 26, 2012. She subsequently graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education/Child Development on May 26, 2017. She also holds a Master Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with a specialization in working with children with special needs. She recently began a new job as an Assistant Teacher at the Early Learning Center, an inclusion preschool in the Menlo Park City School District.

 

 

Did you explore other Education Programs in the area before taking classes at Cañada College?
Cañada College was the best choice for me as my son and daughter had been students there and had received a wonderful education before transferring to a four-year university.

 

How do you feel your courses in the Education & Human Development Department prepared you for your career?

I feel that my courses in the Education & Human Development Department at Cañada College prepared me very well for my career. I use what I learned from my professors in my classroom every day and I can see the benefits of having excellent knowledgeable professors.

 

What advice would you give to students currently in the Education & Human Development Program at Cañada College?

The advice I would give to students currently in the Education & Human Development Department at Cañada College is to make sure to meet with counselors in order to stay on track with the requirements needed. Also, be sure to meet with Jamie Hui, the Retention Specialist for the Department, as she is very knowledgeable, helpful, and a great resource to guide you on your path.

 

What do you love the most about working in your industry?

What I love most about working in the industry is making a difference in the lives of children. Watching children learn and knowing that I directly helped them is very rewarding. Seeing the looks on their faces when they master a new skill inspires me every time because I know that I helped to shape their future learning.
